Different Self

This piece is my different self.  I don’t walk around like this all the time.  This is one of many of my performance avatars.  Each real avatar is created by using a past experience.  To illustrate the experience, metaphoric meaning using poem/rap/lyric adds a sense of mystery.  I don’t want to blatantly tell you my past experience, I want to make the viewer think.

What do you think this piece is about?  Do you believe we make reality avatars?  We dress ourselves up to meet the part…Tennis shoes, shorts and a shirt- Exercise Avatar?…..Nice shirt, nice pants, nice shoes and etc.- Perceptive Avatar?  Do we dress ourselves up in hopes of social interaction?  Social interaction, whether it be in reality or virtuality, is a need we humans seek.  Changing your appearance in reality to something different and unexpected from your peers gains the eye of curiosity.  Do we not look when we hear a loud noise near by?  Do we not look at the odd man out, the person that doesn’t blend in with the rest?

Social interaction in MMORPGs – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lets see what Wikipedia, has to say about social interaction and MMORPG!  Why didn’t I think of this before?  Wikipedia it!  I consider myself a search engine addict.  I’m used to googling everything.  now that I have Wikipedia, I can now Wikipedia some topics.  I thought I’d try treating Wikipedia like Google.  I searched for helpful information retaining MMORPG’s and Social media.  The link below, basically categorizes virtual behaviors, social interactions and relationships each take place in MMORPG’s.

Wikipedia is helpful in some ways when its comes to writing research papers.  Some Wikipedia pages have links at the bottom in either the Reference or Bibliography section.  These links help verify the information on the page.  Just by typing in “Social interaction and MMORPG” I got a quick summary of multiple streams of information.  The sources at the bottom are like doorways to more information.  Very neat idea to include sources on a Wikipedia page!

Alternate Persona

Hello my name is Oscar.  Nice to meet you!  An alternate persona has emerged.  I have taken some measures to create a persona, almost as if I were making an avatar on Second Life, or any other virtual game.  The difference between creating an avatar and creating a persona is the real factor.  Avatars are made virtually not in reality like personas.  We see actors, actresses and some comedies change their persona to get their point across, to sell the story being told.

My alternate persona’s name is Rasweld.  Howdy everyone, gee gholly sure is nice to meet everyone.  Shucks I wish I wasn’t stuck in such a puny body.  I’m a strong hearted man, enjoying the thrill in fighting life.  I take life by the horns and tame the struggles in my life to come.  This Oscar kid, kinda sucks he doesn’t know anything about anything.   His brain is empty folks.  No seriously, I moved into Oscar’s brain with ease.  Talk about echo in hear…Sweet doggy,  I sound like a cowboy.  What is wrong with this guy?  I guess it’s better than a girl voice, haha *spits into canister.* Then we’d all be in trouble.  That would be a cry for therapeutic help.  Dang flabbit, I spilt my drink all over the place!  I shoot the cup for tipping over!  *Takes out finger guns.*  Are you pulling my chain son?  Seriously no real weapons!  Shoot how am I supposed to punish the cup for falling!?! AH I can’t take this anymore!  *Puts finger gun to his head.*  BANG!

Whoah what a mistake that was.  Rasweld kept dissing me, what is up with that?  Delete!  What their is no “delete option!”  How do I get rid of this pestilent persona?  Is it stuck with me until I forget?  So making a real world avatar is completely different then making one via virtual world.  If you don’t like something you can’t delete and start over.  When making an alternate persona its kinda hard to delete and forget.  It kinda gets engraved a little into part of your consciousness, I would think.  Their is reasoning behind the words my alternate persona mentions.  A small part of myself doesn’t think I’m good enough, smart enough, strong enough.  When I created this persona, all those small quiet voices became loud and big.

I have tested this theory of being someone other than myself for years actually.  That is partly the reason why I wanted to do MMORPGs and social media for my essay topic.  I have created the following personas in the last two years:

  • Franshwa –  French persona, only able to speak small amounts of French “bonjour!”
  • Rasweld-      Cowboy persona, speaks up for the small voices in back of head.
  • Remmy-       Dark persona, screams and cries just to cry.
  • Oscar-            Twin persona, complete opposite of normal Oscar.

The list may continue on down the road who knows.  Rest assured I am in control of each persona, well at least I think I am haha it’s hard to tell if I’m an alternate persona right now.  Am I the persona that completes school work and is goody goody?  Endless persona’s present themselves everyday in everyone, will you observe yourself enough to notice them?  It’s obvious when you encounter with other people.  You act different with friends and you act different with family members.  Do you act the same with both family members and friends?

Wikipedia Game & Experience

It’s fun to try new things on Wikipedia.

  • Play some word games with some friends
  • Try the Wikipedia game
  • Find a really bad Wiki page
  • Make up a word and make a wiki out of it
  • Find a brain and enlist some smart content

Above I list some possible goals I may try with Wikipedia.  It will be a fun experience!  Below is my version of how to play the “Wikipedia Game” and some experience with Wikipedia in High School.

Second Life Lizard Experiment

Thursday I was the lone wolf, the only person dressed as a lizard/dragon.  It was still fun I got to talk with Michaela Silvers, and also was spoken to by “Christina” and expert it seemed like from Sexy Nude Beach.  I learned that Second Life is used for more than just goofing around.  It can be used for business, communication, schooling, romance, shopping and more.  A little after roaming Sexy Beach, I realized the rules kept popping up.  Were the rules intended for me?  i though to myself, for a while I thought they were.  Then after really looking I realized the rules popped up for everyone that came to Sexy Beach.  It was fun braking the rules.  I didn’t get banned or reported.

Friday was a little better, one other person dressed as a lizard/dragon and participated in the rant.  This was a fun we walked around, trying mingling and out of nowhere I say My dragon penis is huge!  I was a little embarrassed to break real life character.  I mean I would never say that in real life, I’d be asking for it if I did.  I was expecting a simple “lol” from other second life users.  And it turns out a monkey says “My monkey penis is way bigger than your penis.”  Oh great did I just get myself into a penis fight?  I thought to myself.   I continued on disgracing his monkey penis by saying My dragon penis is so big it stomps your monkey penis.  I think you get the just of it.  Anyways it’s fun to point out the obvious.  The reason it’s called Sexy Nude Beach, probably implies comfortably in being virtually nude.

I’m sure the experiment would have been even more uber awesome if the whole class invaded, but that’s fine.  I had a blast and thank you Fluffwuffer for partaking in the experience.

Second Life Glitches

Oh look there’s a wall, I’m going to walk towards it and see if I can……Oh no I fell through the terrain.  Unexpected glitches sometimes.  Who knew such a great virtual world would have glitches?  Could it be the age of such virtual world?  I mean it was launched on June 23, 2003.  Or could it be my computer?  It very well may be my computer causing such glitches.  Besides the falling through the terrain a few times and walking through walls almost getting stuck.  I manage to find some solid ground.  It is there I am able to sit and enjoy how I look and also enjoy scenery through first person viewing.

Some fun things to try on Second Life:

  1. Fly your hearts out!
  2. Sling shot self and see if you land like a cat.
  3. Fall with fashion. (flying really high, stop flying)
  4. Sit on moving terrain. (I sat on this rotating sphere and I kept going round and round)
  5. Change appearance to be repulsive.
  6. Start a gang.
  7. Start a gang of Lizard people!
  8. Tell someone “I’m trying to eat you.”(funny responses)
  9. Make an anti-avatar of your self.

I’m still learning some more fun things to try on Second Life.  I like being a super hero, so if the game glitches me into flying right through a wall I would be thrilled, in fact if I were glitched into being able to fly through different destinations that would be the best glitch ever!  The glitches I find to be annoying include the delay of play time (slowness),  falling through a terrain and getting stuck (forcing you to exit game) and my favorite annoying glitch is getting kicked off the game for no apparent reason…that one sucks the mother load.

I hope my random good and bad thoughts about Second Life change your thoughts in some way.  I hope you try some fun things off my list!

Experiencing a Second Life

Second Life will be a great experience.  It doesn’t seem at all professional like the other social medias, yet.  Compared to Facebook and Google+ which display video’s of movement and pictures of having fun, Second Life has movement, chat, flying, walking, running, dancing, gestures, virtual terrains and so on.
